Monster hunting in Gießen, Germany

In October 2021, diskurs 35 Festival invited Strange Fur to carry out a monster-hunting residency in the host town of Gießen.

Over 3 weeks, we observed a hapless monster hunter as he attempted to track the appearance of bizarre new creatures in Gießen’s neglected waterways…

Materials: urethane foam, PVC, Performance

Photography: Strange fur and Kathrin Frech

Gießen, Germany, October 2021

After hatching in a forgotten canal, these larvae rapidly spread downstream, (de)colonizing and reclaiming the town's watery territories—much to the monster hunter’s increasing distress…

Finally recombining and metamorphosing into an adult form, the strange larvae left the waters of their infancy to prowl the streets in search of a snack: ecological revenge is a dessert best served fresh
