PARASITES WE HAVE KNOWN and LOVED

(Cordyceps palatius)

What happens when you forage for monsters in a 17th-century Polish castle?

Parasites We Have Known and Loved was a collaborative RESEARCH and FABRICATION PROJECT led by STRANGE FUR at Gorzanow Palace, Poland, for The PALACE RESIDENCY 2023.

roughly twenty participants joined landscape-reading walks, becoming-monster meditation and movement CEREMONIES, and parts of a week-long inflatable sculpture workshop.

WE eventually revealed an enormous architectural parasite Emerging from the Palace’s bell tower.

the monster references local ecology (especially its abundant slugs), the fungal environment of the leaky 17th-century building, and the palace’s darker past as a World War II women’s labor camp.
